Safarnama

In August 2018, Taftoon launched an initiative to explore the flavours and stories from places, people, and cultures along the Grand Trunk Road, from Kabul to Kolkata. The road itself is centuries old, and is home to so many narratives and stories that can be explored through artistic mediums of storytelling, poetry reading, dance and even music.

We have held two Safarnamas so far, and both were successes in their own right.

The first was an enacted storytelling session of the works of Ismat Chughtai and Patras Bokhari – authors who lived around the regions of GT road.

The second Safarnama was held close to Halloween and even though the concept of celebrating Halloween is one that is not native to our part of the land, ghost stories are definitely common to all. Accordingly, our second Safarnama was a ghost storytelling session from places along the Grand Trunk Road that brought the shivers. Through the dramatized readings of the stories, the artists explored themes of hauntings, unhonoured promises, and the effect of not being able to let-go.

More Safarnamas are in the work so get ready to embark on unique journeys from the comfort of Taftoon.
